The author reflects on the development of the Apparatus Maintenance Section by the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC). She states that the section was developed by Underwriter Laboratories member Boyd Cole and his colleagues who aim to provide mechanics for preventive vehicle maintenance, training and safety issues awareness. She adds that the mechanics have become an emergency vehicle technicians with recognized state organization and certification program.
