The article reflects on the efforts of several efforts of semiconductor manufacturers in developing electronics that would conform to the planned standards set by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) for cellular phones. He stresses that these manufacturers are developing a wide range of air interfaces that will be integrated in mobile phones. He also states that vendors are expected to update their products if the new standards do not embrace the vendors' approach.
