The author reflects on the disappointment in the retail environment of the home furnishing industry in North Carolina. He claims that the industry is paying the price linked to the housing market. However, hard-to-please shoppers remain to ignore the industry. He suggests that the industry needs to try something different that could improve the business. He states that in order to engage those hard-to-please shoppers, the industry must keep slashing their prices.
