The author reflects on the conflict of interest between full-time firefighters and volunteer firefighters in the U.S. He states that the difference between full-time paid firefighters and volunteers in protecting their interest has affected the sector and needs and protection of residents. He suggests the firefighters should unite, shift their focus on the doing the right thing for the community, and strengthen the American fire service to assure community safety.
