ABSTRACT
The author reflects on issues about digital captioning in the U.S. He states that the two issues include the delivery of analog programs after the digital transition and the limitations of the popular High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI). He discusses the significant limitations of the 608 format and 708 captions in delivering analog versions of the broadcast signals. He points out that HDMI carries digital audio and some control signals such as Active Format Descriptor.
