The author reflects on the recruitment of Canadian company Shoppers Drug Mart in South Africa which has contributed to the public health disaster in the region due to migration of health workers. He assesses that the company has dispatched recruiter in the country to poach for health professionals to migrate in Canada. He states that the recruitment has resulted a catastrophe in South Africa for the lost of quality workers, coinciding the acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) epidemic.
