ABSTRACT
The author analyzes two studies on new tests for tuberculosis that use early secretory antigen target-6 (ESAT-6) in the CD4+ T cell response (ESAT-6) and culture filtrate protein-10 (CFP-10) antigens found in region of difference 1 (RD1), which is deleted in BCG but found in all pathogenic strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex. The studies analyzed bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) cells in patients with suspected but smear-negative pulmonary tuberculosis.

The T lymphocyte-mediated immune response to Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection in the parietal pleura of patients with tuberculous pleurisy is unknown. The aim of this study was to investigate the immune response in the parietal pleura of tuberculous pleurisy compared with nonspecific...

Over the past few years, many new insights into this process have been gained, leading...

Tuberculosis is a common infectious disease caused by various strains of mycobacteria, usually Mycobacterium tuberculosis (TB). Various liquid or solid media are used for the diagnosis of tuberculosis. TK Rapid Mycobacterial Culture System has been developed recently. In our study, we aimed to...

We have recently described the first true genome-wide screen for CD4C T-cell reactivity directed against Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) in latent TB-infected individuals. The approach relied on predictions of HLA-binding capacity for a panel of DR, DP, and DQ alleles representative of those...

The level of bacterial activity is only poorly defined during asymptomatic Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) infection. The objective was to study the capacity of a new biomarker, the expression of the T cell maturation marker CD27 on MTB-specific CD4 T cells, to identify active tuberculosis (TB)...

In the current study of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB)-specific T and B cells, we found that MTB-specific peptides from early secreted antigenic target-6 (ESAT-6) and culture filtrate protein-10 (CFP-10) induced the expression of IL-21 predominantly in CD4+ T cells. A fraction of...
