ABSTRACT
The author, an editor at the "New York Daily News" newspaper, presents a first person account of the operations of the hyperlocal news Web site she and several other volunteers founded to provide news coverage of Essex County, New Jersey. The Web site of the competing community newspaper does not afford the opportunities for reader interaction, comment, and presentation of information as does her operation's Web site.
