ABSTRACT
The author reflects on the reasons that resulted in the downfall of Imperial Chemical Industries PLC, where he worked as senior executive until 1995. He discusses the position of the company when he joined it in 1978, and mentions the role of then chairman Maurice Hodgson in maintaining the top position of the company since several years. He compares the change in the attitude of company's management and opines that they no longer take bold decisions as were taken by the earlier management.
