ABSTRACT
The authors reflect on the rational management of patent ductus arteriosus (PDA). They discuss that PDA is a common disorder in preterm infants and that a prophylactic indometacin reduced the rates of PDA ligation. They also added that pathological PDA represents a clinical effects that lead to neonatal morbidities. Furthermore, they also stressed on physiological and clinical consequences of shunting, the approaches to management of PDA and the rational approach to treatment of PDA.
