The author reflects on her mother's pasties. According to the author, pasties are savory, short-crust turnovers filled with meat and vegetables that originated in Cornwall, England. She points out that her mother has wonderful childhood memories of eating pasties. She describes her mother's efforts to find a source for decent pasties as a homesick newlywed in Indiana.
