ABSTRACT
The authors reflect on the mechanisms of fatty liver in chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. They pointed out that the infection is the most common cause of cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma in Western countries. They argued that HCV can affect de novo fatty acid biosynthesis, triglyceride (TG) assembly and secretion, and lipid peroxidation. They noted that hypo-betalipoproteinaemia is described in chronic HCV infection, especially in patients infected with genotype 3.
