The author reflects on the term flexicurity in human resource (HR) management. He believes that the central idea behind flexicurity is employee engagement. He argues that if human resource practitioners are to play their part in the new employee relations regime, flexicurity needs the support of both employees and employers. He recommends that command-and-control cultures must give way to employee engagement to allow HR professionals to be more proactive.
