The author comments on the series of Symposia organized by the International Association of Environmental and Analytical Chemistry that addressed the role of sample handling in analytical and bioanalytical chemistry. The highlights of the final symposium that took place in Zaragoza, Spain, in October 2006, is presented. The strategic areas of the event are also enumerated. According to the author, sample handing has proven to be a complex and difficult task during the analytical process.
