ABSTRACT
The author reflects on the oil shale boom in Grand Junction, Colorado. He links the oil shale boom to the Black Sunday event back in May 1982 when the rate of unemployment is very low. For him, the undeniable reality is that all resources that fuel the boom, including coal, natural gas, power plants and transmission corridors, are going great guns. He says that the oil shale boom happened because of boosterism and the hopes of political eager to look like problem-solvers.
