ABSTRACT
The author reflects on the debate over whether computer hardware or computer software is more important to business communications. The author notes that hardware vendors accrue substantial revenues from software and services, but most of that money can be tracked back to hardware sales. He also notes that computer companies like Microsoft Corporation and International Business Machines Corporation are developing new communications software.
