ABSTRACT
The author focuses on the significance of listening in the process of sound recording. He believes that artists today draw inspiration from earlier eras, requiring sound engineers to acquire knowledge of how these sounds were created in the past. He stresses the role of communication in the collaborative effort of producing musicians. He advises not to habitually using the same recording techniques. He recommends listening to each player before making decisions on how to record a particular instrument.
