ABSTRACT
The article talks about the effect of corruption in China's government on the economy. Supposed truths about China, touted at numerous conferences and seminars are presented. Economist Will Hutton writes about the crippling effects of corruption on the economy in his book The Writing on the Wall: China and the West in the 21st Century. According to local economist Hu Angang, corruption cost between 13 percent and 16 percent of gross domestic product in the late 1990s.
