ABSTRACT
The article reflects on the life and work of film director Robert Altman, who died last week at the age of 81. Altman made 35 films, which are remembered for their multilevel soundtracks, loose story lines, and large ensemble casts giving subtle, lifelike performances. The director always appreciated actors and their works. For him filmmaking was an intimate and personal process in which actors were main ingredients. He made films like "Nashville," "Gosford Park," and "A Wedding."
