ABSTRACT
The author reflects on the importance of building on the strengths of the past while exploring new ways to organize faculty work for the future. He cites that ancient Athenian philosophers believe that quality education is a connection between liberal education and learning to find happiness. He states that getting faculty to change the way they think about their work is a critical transition. He mentions the tension between the collegial culture among faculty and the managerial culture in U.S. colleges.
