ABSTRACT
The author reflects on how the prices of televisions and entertainment centers have changed in the U.S. He said that before people spent $300 to $400 on television and $1,500 on furniture compared with about $15,000 on television and only $799 for furniture today. He wondered how the spending was ten times that much. Moreover, he suggested that retailers who wanted to earn respectable margins should focused on the romance and functionality of goods, rather than cutting corners and costs.
