Umstead, R. Thomas

Multichannel News;9/18/2006, Vol. 27 Issue 37, p28
The author reflects on the opportunity offered by broadband to people of color to distribute content created by them. He criticizes the reality television program "Survivor" for pitting African Americans, Asian Americans, whites and Hispanic Americans against each other. He cites that Web sites MySpace.com and YouTube.com have allowed minorities to reach others without passing through media conglomerates. He refers to a survey by Pew Internet and American Life Project which showed that 31% of African American households have broadband Internet.
