The article comments on the merger and acquisition (M&A) activity in the chemicals sector. M&A is now a key element in many chemical company strategies. M&A is being used by many managements to cut out non-performing businesses, build up core operations and shape the overall group portfolio. There is an increase in M&A activity in Asian countries such as China, India and South Korea. There were 112 deals done in the Chinese chemical sector in 2005.
