ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the factors that contribute to the shortage of college teachers in the U.S. The number of college students is increasing at a faster rate than college teachers. The teaching load of college professors has declined, resulting to fewer hours in the classroom. It is viewed that high-quality teaching is associated with research and publications. Valuable results are brought to the students in the classroom by the professor who has more time to study his field. The technical and scientific development of the economy is tied to the many fields of knowledge taught in the university such as chemistry, engineering and economics.
