The author compares the Global 2000 list of companies in the Asia-Pacific in the 2001 and 2006 issue of the periodical "Forbes Asia." Banco Santander, HBOS and Crédit Agricole made it to the 2006 list due to consolidation and privatization in the banking sector. Japanese trading firms Itochu, Sumitomo and Marubeni had strong sales performance in 2001 and are also included in the 2006 list. Time Warner is the lone media company included in the top ranks in 2006, like Vivendi Universal in 2001.
