ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the studies about the interactions between viral infections, wheezing, atopy and asthma in children. Evidence shows that acute infections with rhinoviruses and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) are a common cause of acute wheeze in infancy and childhood. Although symptoms of cough and wheeze after respiratory RSV bronchiolitis may persist into late childhood, they do abate and RSV does not cause asthma or an increased risk of atopy.
