ABSTRACT
The article comments on the state of the methanol market in China as of April 2006. In a tight global methanol market, Chinese prices continue to lag some $50/ton behind levels across the rest of Asia. China's problem is one of overcapacity within the region, with even more gas and coal-based capacity set to come on-stream. China will be the first country to be cut out of exports when there is a Middle East outage, balancing supplies in the short-term.
