The article focuses on a research conducted on the pancreatic stellate cells (PSCs). PSCs play an important role in the cellular and molecular mechanisms of pancreatic fibrogenesis. Fibrosis in the pancreas takes place due to necrosis or apoptosis, inflammation or duct obstruction. The initial event that induces fibrogenesis in the pancreas is an injury that may involve the interstitial mesenchymal cells, duct cells and acinar cells. Damage occurring in any of these tissue compartments is associated with cytokine triggered transformation of resident fibroblasts or pancreatic stellate cells into myofibroblasts and the subsequent production and deposition of extracellular matrix.

Pancreatic cancer is an exceptionally devastating and incurable disease, the treatment of which has largely been unsuccessful due to the higher resistance of pancreatic tumor cells to oncologic treatment. PDAC cells have accumulated different molecular mechanisms, which enable survival against...

Endoscopic retrograde pancreatography (ERP) is considered by many as the gold standard imaging method in the diagnosis of chronic pancreatitis (CP). However, conventional ERP usually has a limited ability to accurately diagnose early-stage CP, in which only the branch ducts are involved and the...

Aim: To evaluate the magnetic resonance (MR) imaging-MR cholangiopancreatographic (MRCP) findings of focal forms of autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP) to describe ductal involvement at diagnosis. Methods: MR examinations of 123 patients affected by AIP were analysed. We included 26 patients who...

Aim/Hypothesis: The adult mammalian pancreas has limited ability to regenerate in order to restore adequate insulin production from multipotent progenitors, the identity and function of which remain poorly understood. Pancreas divisum is an embryologic anomaly of the pancreas that is characterized by a lack of fusion of the dorsal and ventral pancreatic ducts. It is rarely associated with pancreatic neoplasms. We report herein a rare association of pancreas divisum and serous cystadenoma of the pancreas. A...
