The article focuses on "Fire Chief" periodical's Station Style Design Awards in the United States. A consequence of 9/11 was the need for better security in fire stations, including bay doors that automatically close after a response, reinforced doors and coated glass in station houses. Video-monitoring systems keep watch over both the interior and exterior of a fire station. The awards was designed to monitor these changes in preparation for disasters.
