ABSTRACT
The article reports on symptoms and the early diagnosis of lung cancer. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the western world, resulting in nearly 30 000 deaths in England and Wales in 2002. Advances in the management of breast, cervical, and prostate cancer have led to improved survival rates, whereas mortality from lung cancer has remained largely unchanged. Even the best reported 5 year survival rates for lung cancer are reported 5 year survival rates for lung cancer are only 10-15%.
