ABSTRACT
The article presents experience of the author when his four year old son was rushed to emergency room for appendicitis. The author seriously considered running home to get her copy of Ludwig Bemelmann's Madeline. Her panic subsided when she was told that her son's appendix did not have to be removed, but her sentiment has remained constant. She is always on the look out for books that connect to the experiences and emotions her children, nieces, and nephews are going through. She says that high-quality children's books are perfect teaching tools because they deal with the powerful emotions that children feel, and model effective coping strategies in developmentally appropriate ways.
