ABSTRACT
This article presents a brief introduction to the papers published in the January 2004 issue of the "Journal of Teaching in Physical Education." The first two papers herein examine issues related to student motivation in physical education. In the third paper, author provides a detailed look at how teachers think about student emotion and how this influences their decisions about educational content, curriculum, and pedagogy. In the final paper, authors report on a study in which they looked at the impact of a three-semester developmental portfolio intervention employing the Teaching/Learning Framework. Their data provides useful insights on teacher candidates' perceptions of the portfolio process, yet inconclusive findings on whether the portfolio process facilitates teacher candidate professional development.
