The winds of change blow fast and furiously

While historically the IT and training industries have seen change on a regular basis, the speed of this change has accelerated at a frightening pace. In fact, the last six weeks has seen some of the largest and fastest changes in the history of the provider community. For instance, Click2learn Inc. and Docent Inc. are to merge, Spring IT Training has been sold to a U.S. firm and Manchester, England-based Informatics Group has gone into administration. Some commentators have wondered if this is the first sign of an industry in freefall. However, these changes are simply symptomatic of an industry that is maturing, albeit in a difficult climate. And the majority of these changes have come about because the senior management teams of the providers in question have realized that to stand still and not evolve is the real problem.
