The article examines the economic condition in Botswana. It notes that Botswana is rated highest in sovereign risk among African countries. Moody's Investors Service Inc. rated Botswana's local government and foreign currency risks at A1 and A2, respectively. Further, concerns have been raised about its over-dependence on the diamond sector, which contributes two thirds of the state's income. At the macroeconomic level, a large foreign direct investment is expected from an electricity project.
