ABSTRACT
The article presents an economic outlook for Estonia in 2007. Employment growth slowed to 1.9 percent year-on-year in the first quarter and contributed to a drop in the survey-based unemployment rate to 5.3 percent. According to Joaquin Almunia, the European Commissioner for economic and monetary affairs, labor shortages could slow the pace at which Estonia closes the income gap on its European Union peers. Employment contract legislation is being reviewed to enhance labour market flexibility.
