The article provides an update on the condition of the economic and political environment in Slovakia. The relationship of Slovakia with neighbor Hungary appear to be in jeopardy after indications that the inclusion of the far-right Slovak National Party in the new governing coalition in Bratislava may have as feared led to a heightening of ethnic tensions. Meanwhile, the central bank is facing the possibility of greater currency volatility, making its task of achieving 12-month average inflation of around 3.0% in 2007 even harder.
