ABSTRACT
The article reports on the foreign investment deals in the hydropower sector which boosts the economic activity in Vientiane, Laos. The fast growing Thailand and Vietnam are enhancing commercial relations with Vientiane as hydroelectric power increases. The government projects a 34 percent increase in hydroelectric exports in 2010. However, the hydroelectric projects may not be the most sustainable development strategy after the completion of the projects.
