The article presents information on political and social developments in Laos. The ruling Lao People's Revolutionary Party has said it will hold its national party congress after the National Day celebrations on December 2, probably in early 2006. The expectation is for some quite significant leadership changes, including the retirement of the current party general-secretary and president, Khamtay Siphandone.
