ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the announcement made by the government of Thailand for providing greater employment opportunities in attempt to combat the problem of poverty and youth unemployment in country's south that lead to violence in the region. The fact that the government has identified joblessness as a potential contributing factor to militant violence in the country's south is a welcome development. Thai Interior Minister Kongsak Wanthana announced that the authorities intended to begin the process of job creation by carrying out a comprehensive survey of youth unemployment in village communities, with a view to matching labour supply in the south more effectively with the prevailing demand for workers.
