ABSTRACT
The article presents information on the report of the World Bank "Doing Business in 2006." The report suggests that the regulatory environments in the Baltic states are among the most conducive to private entrepreneurship in the world. According to the report, the cost of hiring and firing workers is lower in Latvia than in Estonia and Lithuania, but in terms of employment law, Latvia's labor market is the most rigid. Corporate governance is judged to be strongest in Estonia and weakest in Lithuania, and the court system is deemed the most efficient.
