ABSTRACT
The article presents information on the political, economic and business risks of Slovakia. In an unwonted display of unity, opposition parties have joined forces behind a bill on bringing forward parliamentary elections to next April from September. Rising global oil prices have contributed to a change in the interest rate outlook. Just a few months ago, a further lowering of official interest rates appeared likely by year-end if the koruna resumed its firming trend. In the largest fine ever leveled against a company in Slovakia, a Finance Ministry inquiry has confirmed that Slovnaft AS must pay SKK1.34 billion for what it considered to be an abuse by the refiner in 2004 of its dominant market position.
