ABSTRACT
The article presents political and economic news related to Hungary. According to a recent poll, Hungary's right-of-centre Fidesz opposition party has maintained its lead over the ruling Socialist Party. The Hungarian government has confirmed an increase of 8-10% in its social budget for the year 2006. Finance Minister Janos Veres submitted his ministry's budgetary plans to the parliament at the end of August 2005. Hungary's state privatization and holding company APV has announced that the privatization of state-controlled airline Malév has been cancelled.
