ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the political and economic conditions in Myanmar. Some of the member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations are putting pressure on Myanmar over the slow progress the country is making towards democracy. According to a recent assessment of Myanmar's economy by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), trends in essential inputs to production, such as power and fertilizer, suggest that economic growth was much lower. In its report, the ADB states that the economy will continue to under-perform because of macroeconomic imbalances, and structural problems, which include a fiscal deficit and a dual exchange rate system.
