ABSTRACT
The article presents information on political, economic and business risks of Vietnam. The death of a 73-year-old Vietnamese man from bird flu at the end of June has taken the country's toll to 39. A domestic campaign has been initiated to raise public awareness, including a nation-wide vaccination of poultry in August in an effort to contain the virus, with bird flu appearing most virulent in the winter months. Ratings agency Moody's Investors Service Inc. has raised Vietnam's foreign currency rating by one notch, owing to its pending entry in to the World Trade Organization and improved external position. Initial approval has been granted for a state run company to invest US$487.2 million to mine and process bauxite ore in the Central Highlands.
