ABSTRACT
The article reports that adverse trajectory of the Polish currency zloty has begun to limit expectations for the contribution to growth this year of net exports. The appreciation of the zloty over the past 12 months has not had an immediate impact on indicators of export performance, reflecting the lagged effects of exchange rate developments on output. In the aftermath of European Union accession, Polish exporters profited from buoyant demand from Western Europe for low cost products, especially foodstuffs. This helped to steadily improve the share of net exports in overall GDP growth over the course of much of last year.
