The article reports that a weakening of the net export position is likely to pare back the rate of overall economic expansion in Slovakia this year. Slovak Statistical Office released Q1,05 national accounts data showing household final consumption maintaining the upswing that began in 2004, after a year of restraint imposed by government austerity measures. It rose by 5.5% year-on-year (y-o-y) in the first three months from 4.3% in Q4,04. Gross fixed capital formation also extended its 2004 recovery into the early months of 2005, increasing by 5.8% y-o-y after subdued Q4,04 growth of 0.1%.
