ABSTRACT
The article reports that Hungary has emerged as a strong advocate of further enlargement of the European Union (EU) in recent years. The government has been especially vocal in its support of the EU aspirations of neighboring Croatia. The Hungarian government has also revealed its backing for Romania's place in an enlarged EU. In a visit to Bucharest by representatives of the Hungarian parliament's foreign affairs committee in April 2005, Romania's deputy prime minister, Bela Marko, was reassured of Budapest's commitment to his country's membership.
