ABSTRACT
The article presents a political and economic risk profile of Vietnam as of June 2005. Vietnamese Prime Minister Phan Van Khai has declared support for Australia to join a new East Asia Summit, due to meet in Malaysia for the first time in December. During a visit to Canberra, Khai said he would attempt to convince other members of the Association of South East Asian Nations to back Australia's inclusion in the meeting. Vietnam's government intends to make renewed efforts to control rising inflation, after the statistics office said consumer prices had risen 4.3 percent in the first four months of 2005. Vietnam aims to put its first refinery project into operation by the beginning of 2009, according to Industry Minister Hoang Trung Hai.
