ABSTRACT
The article presents information on the economic, political and business risks assessed in Lithuania for 2005. Finance Minister Algirdas Butkevicius resigned in April after falling out with other coalition members over taxation policy. In order to be able to abolish the road tax and reduce personal income taxes without increasing the budget deficit, Butkevicius proposed imposing an additional 4% levy on corporate profits in 2006 and 2007 only. External current account deficits of up to 9% of gross domestic product are consistent with Lithuania's economic fundamentals.
