ABSTRACT
The article informs that South East Asia is set to be one of the top performing regions of the world economy, despite the tsunami that hit countries along the Indian Ocean on December 26, 2004. GDP growth forecasts for Thailand remain unchanged, although the full impact will depend on how quickly foreign tourists return to the country once the main infrastructure has been repaired. The impact on Indonesia is also likely to be limited, since Aceh, the province worst hit by the giant waves, accounts for only 2.2% of the total economy, with the region's natural gas sector, which accounts for most of its output, unaffected by the disaster.
